A long-time resident of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Luther Van and Lula Jones Brown, and the devoted wife of the late Thomas Wayne Barker.
Jackie was the valedictorian and a basketball player at Monticello High School.
Faith, family and friends were her foundation. A life-long member of Apple’s Chapel Christian Church, Jackie faithfully served as class president and teacher for the Couples for Christ Sunday School class for many years. She was known for sending personal, heartfelt letters to comfort and cheer those in need. Family was most important in her life and she delighted in big family get-togethers; a wonderful cook she always made plenty of everyone’s favorite dishes. Her Red Velvet Cake was the highlight of the Christmas season.
She is survived by sons: Dr. Greg Barker and wife, Lorie, of Mebane and Paul Barker (Pam Warren); daughter Christi B. Skenes of Mebane; six grandsons, the joy of her life: John Baulding (Lesley), Joshua Baulding (Heather), Emerson Barker (Lina), Phil Baulding (Raven), Layton Barker and Gibson Barker; great-grandchildren: Abigail Baulding and Maverick Baulding; and her brother, John G. “Bill” Brown.
She was preceded in death by her brothers: Howard Brown (Hattie) and Van Brown (Virginia); sisters: Edna Michael (Billy) and Violette Brown; and sister-in-law, Geraldine Brown.
A private graveside service to celebrate her life was held Friday, April 24, 2020 at Apple’s Chapel Cemetery, officiated by Rev. C. Allen Myers, III.
