1ST LT. Robert Scott Mason was killed while a pilot on a combat operation and encountered severe weather.
His was a pilot for the 1ST Aviation BDE, 12TH AVN Group, 145TH AVN BN, 118TH AHC
Crash site 2 KM SW of Ga Trang Bom, on HWY QL-1 19 KM East of Bien Hoa City, South Vietnam.
1LT Mason was reported missing on Oct 9 1969 and changed to killed on Nov 23 1969.
Robert was survived by his Father Mr. Robert Scott Mason Sr. his Mother Mary Ann Zigo Mason and two brothers Corey John and Todd Edward Mason all of Babylon, N.Y.
Robert Scott Mason was first buried in the Long Island National Cemetery but later reinterred on 04/15/1970 to the Saint Charles Cemetery , Farmingdale, N.Y. to be with family.

MOS: 1981 Rotary Wing Aviation Unit Commander.

Robert arrived in Vietnam 1 July 1969 and was assigned to AHC, 145th Aviation Battalion, 12th Aviation Group, 1st Aviation Brigade, USARV. Robert was on a night mission when the helicopter that he was a pilot crashed during severe weather 2 kilometers southwest of Ga Trang Bom on Highway QL-1 and 19 kilometers east of Bien Hoa City. Robert died as a result of bodily injuries from the crash. His body was recovered.
1st Lt Mason served his country for at least 2 years.
Survived by his parents, Mr & Mrs Nelson Mason Sr, and his brother; Cory Mason, all of 15 Deering Wood, Babylon, New York.
