Professional Football Player. For fourteen seasons (1965 to 1978), he played at the linebacker position in the National Football League with the Baltimore Colts, Seattle Seahawks and Washington Redskins. Born James Michael Curtis, he made his initial impact on the football field during his years at Richard Montgomery High School in Maryland. He enrolled at Duke University where he became one of the football program's all time greats. He was named Most Valuable Player for his senior year. Selected by the Baltimore Colts as the number 14 overall pick during the 1965 NFL Draft, he played in 166 career regular season games. During the course of his career, Curtis achieved Pro-Bowl honors four-times and All-Pro recognition twice, the later gave him the distinction of accomplishing this as an outside linebacker and middle linebacker. He experienced an NFL Championship season in 1968 which culminated with an appearance in the Super Bowl (January 1969). Curtis was a key player for Baltimore when they won the Super Bowl for the 1970 NFL Season (Super Bowl January 1971). In 1974, he was named team MVP by the Colts. He also had the distinction as being on the Seattle Seahawks' roster during their inaugural season of 1976. In 1972, he penned his autobiography "Keep Off My Turf" which recounted his playing career up until that point. Curtis is widely believed to be worthy for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
