Completed his earthly life at age 79 at his home in Kamas, Utah surrounded by family. Born in Francis, Utah. Son of Joseph Clyde and Ethel Prescott Van Tassell. Married LaReta Cooley August 11, 1948 in the Logan Utah LDS Temple. Best friends, they both loved playing and working together, enjoyed world travel and owning Hi-Mountain Drug since 1968. Avid swimmer. Loved the mountains. A respected farmer, businessman and civic leader. Served on the South Summit School Board for 16 years. Life long active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving diligently as a Stake Young Men's president and on the Kamas Utah Stake High Counsel. First Bishop of the Kamas 2nd Ward. Had a strong testimony of the gospel, which he bore often. Grandchildren loved sitting his lap, feel his whiskers as he read a story, especially Green Eggs and Ham. Family will miss his gentle soft chuckle and smiling blue eyes. Survived by wife of 59 years, LaReta, son Craig C, and daughter Gaye (Gaylen) Pace, 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and twin brother Murlin "Duff". Predeceased by parents, brothers: Clayne, James, Don, and Gail, sisters: Inez and Norma, grandson Gaylen M. Services held Thursday August 9, 2007 at the Kamas LDS Chapel.
