Helen Crisp (Ivins) Quimby was born on July 26, 1923 in Trenton, New Jersey, the daughter of William P. and Helen A. (Williams) Ivins. She shared the same birthday with her mother. She graduated from Trenton Central High School with the class of 1941.

While in Trenton, she was employed as a savings bank teller and head of the payroll department at H.D. Lee Company, the maker of Lee jeans.

She married Kenneth L. Quimby in Trenton on November 13, 1948 and before moving to to Ken's hometown of Waterville, Maine following his retirement in 1980, they lived lived in Weirton, West Virginia since 1958. Ken died April 15, 1998.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Waterville. She died in Waterville on May 4, 2005. She was survived by her sister Elizabeth (Betty) Markowski and niece Sally Colin of Mt. Laurel, New Jersey.
