1950-2017
Gordon E. Baumbach died Thursday, April 6th, 2017, in Longview Texas. Originally from La Porte, Mr. Baumbach has been a member of the Longview community for seven years.
He was born on September 16th, 1950, in Pasadena, Texas to the late Walton and Margaret Baumbach. Gordon served the United States Army, and promptly began work with NASA as an analyst, with whom he spent 14 years. He made a career as a controls manager with H.B. Zachry, and retired after 25yrs of service. During his time with Zachary, he and his wife Sherrie traveled often, and was able to see many unique places. The couple lived in the La Porte, Texas and coastal Houston area for several years. Gordon was described as a brilliant, gentle, and kind person.
Survivors include his wife Sherrie Calaway, Sister-in-Law and husband, Pat and Wes Porter of Willis; Aunt, Gladys Roberts of Rockdale; and Cousins, Inez Tipp of Rockdale and Beverly Copeland and husband Nelson of Pascagoula, MS.
Mr. Baumbach will lie in state, Monday, April 10th, 2017, in the Library of Welch Funeral Home. Friends, Community and Co workers are encouraged to sign the register during normal business hours, or online at www.welchfuneral.com No formal visitation is scheduled and a Memorial service will be held at a later date.
