He was preceded in death by his dad, Arnold Black, and father in law, Donald ‘Red’ Ferguson.

Steven graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1981 and attended Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida where he earned his Commercial Pilot License.

Steven then returned to Ottumwa, where he owned and operated Ottumwa Flying Service beginning in 1984, with his parents. He ran the business with his mom and wife until 2016. Being an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan, and formerly a season ticket holder, he spent many weekends at Kinnick Stadium and Carver Hawkeye Arena. Steve and his family also hosted several I-Club Banquets at the Ottumwa Airport with Hayden Frye and Tom Davis.

In recent years since moving to the Des Moines area, Steve was enjoying a slower work life, relaxing and doing some of the things he most enjoyed.
