Samuel was the son of Joshua and Elizabeth (Bowman) DeWeese. He married in 1793 Sarah McDougal. On Nov 7, 1822, the court appointed a guardian for his minor children--Ann, Sally, Samuel, Peggy & Polly. He also had at least two older sons, Joshua and William. Samuel was the first pastor of the first Baptist Church in Miami County.
Sources indicate he served in War of 1812.
