John Lloyd Akright age 76 of Timewell, Illinois passed away at 6:40 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 2004 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.
Born January 16, 1928 in Timewell, Illinois the son of Herbert and Cecil Whiteside Akright, John married Phyllis E. Cutforth on April 20, 1952 in Timewell;she survives.

John was a retired Rural Mail Carrier for the United States Postal Service having worked
in both Timewell and Clayton . He had also worked as a self-employed carpenter, attended Timewell Schools and graduated from Mt. Sterling High School; Class of 1946.

Mr. Akright was a veteran of the Korean War having served his country in the United States Army.

He was a devoted member of the Timewell Christian Church having served the church
in several capacities.

Mr. Akright was also a member and past commander of the Timewell American Legion Post #1059. He had also served as Commander of the American Legion 20th District and as Commander of the American Legion 3rd Division.

Mr. Akright was a member of Adams County
40 & 8, a former member of the Timewell Lions Club and had assisted with the foundation of Brown County Youth Baseball.

He was an avid reader and always enjoyed collecting coins.

John truly loved the time spent with his family and will be forever remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather

He was preceded in death by his parents,
Three brothers: Russell and Verne Akright and a brother in infancy.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at the Hendricker Funeral home, Mt Sterling, Illinois
Friends may also call from 8 a.m. until time of services on Thursday.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 13, 2004 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling; Rev. Steve Griffin officiating.
Burial will be in the Mound Cemetery, Timewell, Illinois.
Military services will be conducted graveside by the Timewell American Legion, Post #1059.
