Jim L. Schechinger, son of Mike and Annabel Schechinger, was born October 16, 1935 in Westphalia.

He graduated with the St Boniface class of 1953.

On January 14, 1961, he married Kay Stangl (b.5/13/1938) daughter of Albert and Elizabeth Stangl of Neola.

Jim is a Marine Corps veteran from 1955-1957, and when he returned home from the service he began farming. Kay is a 1959 graduate of the Mercy School of Nursing.

Children: Patricia (b.8/2/1961), married John Snyder, children: Kayla and John III; Jay (b.12/7/1962), married Cindy Hughes; Carol (b.6/6/1965), married Darrell Fisher, child: Tyler; Ken (b.9/22/1967); and Dave (b.7/21/1970), married Ann Gonner.

Prior to his death on January 22, 1990, Jim had served on the boards of the Farmers Mutual Telephone Company, Westphalia Coop and the Shelby County Pork Producers. Kay is employed at the Baptist Memorial Home in Harlan.
