Funeral service to celebrate Gene's life will be held Thursday, February, 13, 2020 at 1:00 PM in Maranatha Assembly of God (555 West Imboden Drive, Decatur, IL 62521). Visitation will be two hours before service time at the church.
Burial will be in Mount Gilead Cemetery, Decatur. Military rites will be offered by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the Maranatha Assembly of God. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of the arrangements.
Gene was born in December of 1952 in Decatur the son of Loren V. and Virginia M. Carpenter. He was a Semi-Tanker Truck driver. Gene was a proud member of the NRA, VFW, Eagles Club and enjoyed riding his three-wheeler motorcycle. He enjoyed shooting at the pistol range, loved his trucks and country music. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He married Lona Brown in August of 1987 and she preceded him in death in November of 2011.
Surviving are his son, Chase (Shantell) Carpenter of Covington, VA., daughter, Lauren (Rex) Van Haintz of Clinton, IL., grandchildren, Kealeigh Tingler, Dandre Jennings, Addison Carpenter and twins, Carsyn and Camdyn Carpenter, sisters, Belinda (John) Roy, Virginia (Gary) Carter, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and grandson Hayden Carpenter.
Gene was a great father, grandfather and brother and a well liked friend to many. He will be deeply missed.
