Mary Aileen Berg, 98, most recently from Fort Collins, Colorado, died peacefully on December 30, 2019. Mary’s devotions throughout her life were her firm belief in God, attention to all in her family, and her belief in the goodness of others. Mary loved everyone and everyone loved Mary.

Mary was born October 18, 1921 in Jacksonville, Illinois to the late Burl and Lora (Barbee) May. She was a 1939 graduate of Kankakee High School. On August 28, 1943, Mary and Donald Edward Berg were married in Kankakee, Illinois. Don served in World War II and after he passionately served a 45-year career as a professional Boy Scout Executive. After 5 years in Kankakee the family moved to Traverse City Michigan in 1950 and then moved back to Illinois (Decatur) in 1957. Mary resided in Decatur until 2009 when she then moved near her daughter Sharon in Eaton, Colorado.

Mary and her husband Don were blessed with a large and loving family. They raised their seven children with absolute love, guidance, patience, discipline and fun.

Mary was heavily involved in her churches, in music programs, and loved the outdoors. In Eaton, Mary was a member of the Bethel Family Praise Center. She was always a loving mother, continually kind to others, and always had time to address your problem; no matter how small. She sustained a very positive outlook on life. Her sense of humor and quick-wit was contagious to those around her. She will be dearly missed.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Donna (Pat) Byrne of The Villages, Florida, Lorey (Dave) Johnson of Decatur, Illinois and Sharon (Mike) McNeil of Eaton, Colorado; her sons, David (Judy) Berg of Evanston, Illinois, Doug (Debbie) Berg of Glenview, Illinois, Dan (Cindy) Berg of Duluth, Georgia and Gerry (Kathy) Berg of Norcross, Georgia; her 14 grandchildren her 6 great grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Berg; her parents and her brothers, Lilbourn (Wizz) and Burl (Andy).

Mary will be buried in North Fork Cemetery (Decatur, IL) alongside her late husband, who passed away in 1987.
