(This is not James H Relyea of the 156th.)
James served as a private in the 15th NY Heavy Artillery. He was dishonorably discharged on 6 June 1865 for going AWOL near Petersburg, VA from Feb 6 - 12, 1865. He came back voluntarily and was promptly arrested, giving no reason as to why he left. See his file on Fold 3 for a copy of his service record and discharge. The cemetery holds the record of his court-martial if his family would like to contact us for a copy.
Son of James Relyea (died Dec 1841) and Martha Owen. Brother to Elizabeth Relyea Bull and Edward Relyea (#210770599).
