Son of William and Mary Woolman Hunt
William was a Quaker minister. He began his ministry at the age of 20, and his first travels were to Virginia and through out the Carolinas. In 1761 through 1768 he travelled in the New England states. In 1771 he visited England, while in England he contracted small pox and died. He was buried in the Friends burial ground at Newcastle-on-Tyne. A monument was erected in his memory in the New Garden Friends Burial ground in Guilford County, North Carolina.
