He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Emily, his daughter Lara Protiva and husband Kevin, and his son Mark and wife Kelly. He was the beloved grandfather of Emily and Cameron Provita, and Kaylin and Avalon Pierson.
Frank attended University of California, Berkeley, receiving his A.B. and MBA degrees, and worked for General Mills in Minneapolis before returning to CA to be marketing director for Japanese Deer Park and Movieland Wax Museum. Later he owned an ice rink in Garden Grove before changing careers and moving to San Francisco to attend dental school. After the family moved back to Cost Mesa in 1980, Frank practiced dentistry with Dr. Michael Nisbet, later purchasing that practice.
Frank truly enjoyed being a dentist, and felt his office staff was virtually a part of his family. He also loved caring for others. Upon retiring he became a hospice volunteer and a Stephen Minister, and was very involved in his church. A huge Laker fan until the day he died, Frank also liked playing and watching tennis, traveling, going to the beach, and most of all spending time with his children and grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant in Costa Mesa on Saturday, August 5, at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that any donations be made in his memory to the Parkinson's Association of Orange County, 7700 Irvine Center Drive, Ste. 80, Irvine, CA 92618 (www.paocinc.org), or to the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant.
