Maria was the daughter of Christian Guth/Good and Barbara Guth, née Brandt.

Maria was married to David Martin on May 4, 1794. They had 13 known children. (A daughter, Barbara, died in infancy.)

In 1820, David and Maria moved their family of twelve children from Pennsylvania to Canada. On June 9 of the same year, they settled on a farm, which is now an urban development in north-east Waterloo, Ontario.

Maria's life at their new home was short. In A Biographical History of Waterloo Township (1895), Ezra Eby describes the event:
Many and almost indescribable were the hardships and sufferings of this family in making the journey from Pennsylvania to their new home in this county but no sooner had they fully rested themselves and seemed to enjoy their life in the wilds of Canada, when "King Death" came and claimed the mother of this happy family as his own. After suffering great pain for five days, caused by inflammation of the bowels, she died of mortification, July 5th, 1820.

David married his second wife, Catherine Guth/Good, on June 13, 1824.
