BLOOMINGTON — Kathryn Elizabeth "Katie" Reid, 32, of Bloomington, passed away peacefully Sunday (March 26, 2017) at Christ Advocate Hospice, Oak Lawn.

A visitation to share Katie’s amazing life will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, with eulogies from 6 to 7 p.m.

Katie was born Aug. 2, 1984, in Normal, to Joseph and Carol Reid, who both survive in Bloomington. Also surviving are her siblings, Daniel (Aubrey) Reid and Lauren (Jonathan Joseph) Reid; Katie's partner, Joshua Wiltse; her grandparents, Jim and Rose Reid, Frederick, Md.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; as well as niece, Ruby Ellen Reid, who loved her dearly. Ruby squealed and kissed the phone whenever Aunt Katie Skyped.

Her maternal grandmother, Pauline Wood, preceded Katie in death. Katie was very close to "Marmie," and will be buried next to her in Maryland.

Katie graduated from Normal West, Heartland Community College, and attended University of Illinois-Springfield.

Katie was best known for her lavish, colorful art work, and she ran Ryn Reid Commissions, selling artwork at conventions and local film premieres. She also worked at several local businesses, including as camp counselor for the Bloomington-Normal Girl Scouts, cake decorator for Wal-Mart and Meijer, clerk for Hancock Fabrics, and implementation coordinator for Randstad.

She was known for her artwork and cake decorating skills. Nothing made Katie happier than sitting down to create a unique piece of art, and her generosity and skill influenced all who knew her.

Katie was a giving person who made many friends and disappointed no one. She loved her family and friends to the fullest. She loved animals including her rabbit, Olive, and she was known as "Squirrel" to the hundreds of campers she oversaw at Camp Peairs over the years.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all of the doctors and nurses who helped her along her journey. Katie never knew an enemy and was an angel on earth for all who knew her.

Katie’s life was cut short by a rare, aggressive cancer but our memories of her will go on. She was our Katie Sunshine who brightened up all of our days.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Planned Parenthood. Please, get routinely checked for cancer.
