She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, both parents; her brothers, Thomas Johnson, Freddie Johnson, Harry Johnson and sister, Louise Wise.
Mrs. Sims was a devote woman of faith and deeply loved the Lord. Early in life she became a Christian and was a long standing member of Foster Creek Baptist Church, Trevilians, VA where she served as a deaconess. She worshipped and walked along side her husband as former first lady of the Mount Olive Baptist Church, Montpelier, VA; Eagle Baptist Church, Louisa, VA; Main UNO Baptist Church, UNO, VA and Thessalonian Baptist Church, Fork Union, VA. Her faith journey presented her with opportunities to travel internationally. On her first trip abroad to Israel, amid apprehension, her guide said to her, “Sister Sims, If you’re gonna worry, why pray? If you’re gonna pray, why worry?”
She carried that Christian principle throughout her life and lent that wisdom to women around the world during her active service as a member of a beloved sisterhood for the International, Regional, State and Local Chapters with the Ministers’ Wives Ministers’ Widows. She loved this group, the missions, activities, certificate studies and travels that were offered. Her loving and caring nature for others was a real part of her daily life and missionary purpose.
To stay healthy, she walked 3 days a week for thirty minutes and declared it to be the best medicine ever.
Mrs. Sims worked for the Louisa Manufactory Company as a seamstress for more than twenty years. She loved to sew and was most proud of the quilts she made and gave her children. She also enjoyed cooking. It was a household tradition. A family trait that was passed down from generation to generation. Her mother taught her and she affectionately passed it down to her children.
She loved her children more than anything and was not happy with the speed of their growth and departure from home. The love for her children was rivaled only for the love she had for the many grands that she spoiled more and more and more with each visit.
Her presence will be missed and her memory cherished by her seven children: daughters, Felicia Alsop (Blake), Florazella Orange (Roy) and sons James (Shirley), Charles Jr. (Cynthia), Stanley (Mary), Ronald (Carolyn) and Christopher; totally loved grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She also leaves beloved sisters, Lois Williams and Anna Morton (Carl) of Maryland, Jean Washington and Doris Seaberry of Virginia and brothers, Gist Johnson of New Jersey and Harvey Johnson of Virginia and much much loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Foster Creek Baptist Church, Post Office Box 1157, Louisa, Virginia 23093.
Due to the governor's declaration that funeral services or private family gatherings are limited, the family will hold a private graveside service for immediate family only.
