Born in Sanford, ME on January 9, 1918 the daughter of Lewis E. and Anna M. (McComb) Palardy. She spent several years at St. Charles Children's Home in Rochester. She was a graduate of St. Charles School, Dover and the Dow Academy in Franconia, NH and has lived in Dover for most of her lifetime.
Rita was very involved in the community as a volunteer having worked with the St. Charles Children's Home, My Friends Place, Northern New England Drum Corps, Cochecho Valley Humane Society, Dover Police Department Christmas Fund & youth activities, the American Cancer Society for 37-years and the United Way.
Rita and her late husband were active with the Dover Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade for 29 years, as well as the Dover 350th Celebration and the Dover Bicentennial Celebration.
She was a member, past President of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #8, also was past District President as well as being active with their Girls State program. She was active with the gold Star Mothers. She also formerly served on the board of My Friends Place. She loved cats.
Prior to her retirement Rita was a waitress in area restaurants including Daeris Tea Room, the American House, Exeter Inn and Harvey's Bakery Coffee Shop as well as working for Simpson's Catering.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church.
She is survived by her sisters Evelyn I. Osborn of Avon, CT and Ellen LaBonte of York, ME and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Her husband Donald O. MacLeod who died in 1994, her son Donald H. MacLeod who died in 1968, her grandson Donald H. MacLeod, Jr. who died in 2003, her brother Felix Phil Palardy and her sisters Blanche Cormier and Marie Agnes Byers all predeceased her.
