AURORA — Dorothy "Dottie" Farrell, age 93, of Aurora, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 11, 2020, while at Independence Village of Aurora. She was the beloved wife of James Y. Farrell, whom she married August 20, 1949, and who passed away on October 19, 2003. Dottie was born February 26, 1927, in Clarington, Ohio, the daughter of the late Roy S. and Nellie Yockey Kimpel. She attended the Warren school system and furthered her education at Ohio University, earning a bachelor's degree in elementary education, while belonging to Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Dottie, who had a contagious smile and infectious laughter, was loved beyond measure. To know Dottie was to love Dottie. She was happiest when she was with her family gathered together. She made a warm and welcoming home for all who entered. She loved flowers, music, cooking (trying and saving many recipes), entertaining, sharing stories and giggling with family, friends and caregivers. She will be remembered dearly by those who knew her because of her compassion, care and unconditional love for all she met. While living in Warren, she volunteered as a Pink Lady at Trumbull Memorial Hospital and was also a member of Christian Women's Club, where she led Bible studies for many years. Most importantly, Dottie knew the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, and was an active member of First United Methodist and later North-Mar Church in Warren. Most recently, Dottie enjoyed the Monday morning Bible study at Independence Village, offered to residents by Parkside Church and Sunday morning worship services provided by Freedom Fellowship of North East Ohio. Dottie is survived by four daughters, Nancy (George) Petak of Monument, Colo., Audrey Taylor of Warren, Trish (Brian) Landsman of Chagrin Falls and Barb (Jim) Thomas of Westerville; 11 grandchildren, Brian (Heidi), Todd (Shannon), Meigan (Armando), Paul (Jill), Becca (Mike), Joe (Lydia), Ethan, Lauren, Melissa, Heather (Sam) and David; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and loving nieces and nephews. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Kadey Kimpel; and daughter-in-law, Dar Zingale. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by infant son, James Roy "Jimmy" Farrell; son, David Young Farrell; and two brothers, Paul and Bob Kimpel. Dottie's family would like to recognize and express their appreciation for the loving care given to her by the staff at Independence Village, many of whom became like family during the 10 years she lived there. They would also like to give special recognition to Crossroads Hospice NEO, who provided wonderfully compassionate care to Dottie in her final days. Friends and family may view the obituary and send condolences by visiting www.NicholasFuneral Home.com. Memorials are requested to be sent to Crossroads Hospice NEO, 3743 Boettler Oaks Drive, Suite E, Uniontown, Ohio 44685 or Lifebanc of Ohio, www.lifebanc.org. A memorial service, in Dottie's honor, will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to the Wm Nicholas Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 614 Warren Ave., Niles, OH 44446. Inurnment will be in Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna, Ohio.
