Despite the efforts of the U.S. Coast Guard and the crew of the commercial fishing vessel, the "Resilient," Kyle P. Riley, 45, of Westerly died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, as a result of a severe asthmatic episode suffered while fishing 54 nautical miles off the New Jersey coast.
Born in Westerly on Jan. 7, 1962, he was the son of Pauline Patton Riley and the late Norman Riley Sr. of Pawcatuck.
Kyle attended St. Michael School and graduated from Grasso Tech in 1980. He chose a life-long career as a commercial fisherman following in the footsteps of his late father. Most realized Kyle felt a special connection to his father through this inherited life, and he carried this special connection deep inside with pride.
