Austin D. Powell, 82, Rt. 5, Peru, died today at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. He had been in poor health for several years.
He was born March 6, 1901, in Mier, to Benjamin and Clara Reynolds Powell. On May 31, 1923, he was married to Audrey Gladys Bonner, who died Aug. 22, 1934.
On April 12, 1936, he was married to Caroline Mullen, who survives.
He was a farmer and had retired from Central Murphy Furniture Co., Peru, in 1972. He was a World War I army veteran and a member of Bunker Hill United Methodist Church. For 10 years he served as trustee of Washington Township, Miami County.
Also surviving are three daughters, Elaine Harrison, Goshen, Nancy Lenon, Kokomo, and Ellen Clements, Atlanta, Ga.; a son, Larry Dee, Rt. 5, Peru; a sister, Belva Mae Hummel, Anderson; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A daughter and three sisters preceded in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Bunker Hill United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Harvey King officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Allen Funeral Home, Bunker Hill. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
