William was the son of Major Fielding Turner and Anne Lewis natives of Virginia. He married Sarah Ellzey June 5, 1753 in Fairfax, Virginia. William and Sarah had eight known children: Lewis Ellzey; Sarah Beatty; John Wheeler; Nancy Ann Clark; Vincent; William; Thomas and Thomazin Ellzey Turner.

15 Jul 1754 • Stafford County, Virginia
William received his share of his father's estate as a gift by deed dated July 15, 1754. It was approximately 200 acres and later sold to Moses Hopwood. It was probably a wedding present, since his son, Lewis Ellzey Turner, was born September 14, 1754. Although the land was actually given to him in 1752, the deed was not acknowledged until 1754.

His fathers will he states: I give to my son William Turner, 10 pounds current money and all my wearing apparel and no more of my estate.

William is named in the Virginia Public Claims, Fairfax County, as supplying 425 pounds of beef for American troops during the Revolutionary War. He was reimbursed 7.1.8.
