Linda Jane Hinshaw Larason, 72, of Oklahoma City, passed away April 11 due to complications from multiple myeloma. Linda was born on July 5, 1947, in Depew, Oklahoma, to Howard and Mona (Vines) Hinshaw. She grew up in Sapulpa, where she graduated Valedictorian from Sapulpa High School in 1965. Linda attended Oklahoma City University on an academic scholarship before becoming a tax secretary at Arthur Young & Co., where she met her future husband Timothy M. Larason. They were married December 28, 1969, in Oklahoma City and together raised two children, John Todd Larason, and Amber Dawn Larason.

Linda was a proud and passionate life-long Democrat and she devoted her professional life to improving the lives of vulnerable women, children, and families. She served as the President of the Oklahoma City Chapter of the League of Women Voters during the fight to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. That experience inspired Linda to seek political office so that she could continue to fight for the progressive causes that mattered most to her. Linda served in the House of Representatives from 1985 to 1995, representing District 88 in Oklahoma City. She is remembered as a fierce advocate for public education, teen pregnancy prevention, and equitable access to health care. Linda co-authored House Bill 1017, an historic education reform package that still guides legislation today, and she was a member of the T-Bar 12, the legislative group that engineered the ouster of the Speaker of the House and election of Rep. Steve Lewis.

After leaving politics, Larason enjoyed a second career in the nonprofit industry, serving in leadership roles at the Community Council and the Oklahoma County Medical Society, where she was instrumental in the creation of the Health Alliance for the Uninsured. She also served on several nonprofit boards and was a founding board member of the Myriad Gardens Foundation, CARE Center, Homeless Alliance, and AIDS Walk OKC.

Her talent for creating strategic partnerships earned her the nickname "Queen of Convening", but she was equally known as a great mentor and friend. She had a quick wit, dry sense of humor, and a memorable laugh - rich, rewarding, and loud enough to be heard over the din of any crowded restaurant, board meeting, or theatre audience. The Larason home was often full of laughter and good friends, especially Amber and Todd's friends, who were always welcomed with open arms.

Linda retired in 2012 to enjoy more travelling with Tim; Jazz Fest in New Orleans in May; Telluride and Durango in June, Winfield Festival in September were part of the annual rotation. Retiring also allowed her to spend more time with her beloved granddaughters. Linda was a patient and devoted grandmother, and Maddie and Katie have wonderful memories of sleep-overs, mini-vacations, and annual gingerbread house-making parties.

Linda was preceded in death by her son John Todd Larason, her father Howard Hinshaw, mother Mona Hinshaw, father-in-law A.R. "Bert" Larason, and mother-in-law Margaret Larason.

Linda is survived by her husband of 50 years, Timothy Larason, of Oklahoma City; her daughter Amber Larason Niblett, of Edmond, husband James Lee Niblett, and their daughters Katie Dale and Madeline Margaret; sister-in-law, Anne Larason Schneider of Phoenix and nephews Christopher Schneider and Geoff Schneider; sister-in-law, Linda Larason Edmondson of Oklahoma City, husband Drew Edmondson, nephew Robert Edmondson, his wife Andrea Edmondson, niece Mary Edmondson Ross, and husband Michael Ross; brother Delbert Hinshaw of Sapulpa, nephew Howard and wife Dena Hinshaw; nephew Douglas and wife Kresha Hinshaw, nephew Bryan and wife Karina Hinshaw; and niece Kimberley Hinshaw Leatherwood; step-sister Jeanie and husband Darrell Rollins; nephew Ronny Johnson, nephew Robert Johnson, step-sister Joanne and husband Newman "Buck" Helton, nephew Jerry and wife Karen Helton and nephew Michael and wife Robin.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Linda's family requests that everyone vote in the upcoming election. Donations may be made in Linda's memory to the Democratic candidate of your choice or to one of the non-profits she supported: Sally's List, AIDS Walk OKC, CARE Center, Myriad Gardens Foundation, or the Homeless Alliance.
