Tullula Adelia Buys Brantly was the daughter of James Buys (b. 1/27/1802 - d. 1867 in Louisianna). He was a Baptist Clergyman, a physician and a surgeon. Tallula attended Mount Lebanon College in Bienville Parish before her marriage to Benjamin Gilmer Brantly. This was a rare advantage for young women of her day.
