Ida died of Scarlet Fever. Her mother told a story of the night she died. The local doctor had pronounced that Ida would recover. Sleigh bells and singing were heard outside the house. Her mother Caroline and sister Eliza went to investigate and there was no-one there. When they returned to the house Ida had died. Ida is buried next to her mother and father John and Caroline Hughes. In 2015 the urn marking her grave was stolen.
