GEORGE KAPPUS, 86 years young, left this world on Tuesday, August 7, 2007. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Vera Moreau Kappus. George, a retired salesman and native Texan, grew up in San Antonio and spent a portion of his teenage years in Fredericksburg. He lived the last four years of his life in Leslie, AR. He saw many corners of the world as a captain in the US Navy where he served his country proudly during the battle at Normandy Beach on D-Day. George was loved and respected by all who had the opportunity to encounter him, whether it was a chance meeting on the street where they exchanged pleasantries or a more lasting relationship. He will be remembered for his honesty, kindness, hard work, ethics and strong morals. George was a teller of great stories and brought joy to many hearts with his presence. He worked in the fields as a young man, who sacrificed himself to support his mother and siblings, then later in life his own family. A formidable foe at both gin and dominoes, George was the true embodiment of the type of man who can be best described as the perfect father, loving husband, and true friend. He guided his children with wisdom and compassion. He always put others before himself and was never critical or judgmental. The twinkle in his eyes faded peacefully away in the company of his oldest and youngest daughters, along with his favorite caregiver, Mitzi. George is survived by his children, Camille Tracey and husband Dr. Thomas Tracey, Drew Kappus and wife Linda, Lynn Monahan and husband John, Joan Kappus and boyfriend Dr. Tom Bonner, and Kathy Kappus and husband Aaron Chadwick; grandchildren Amber, Dustin and April Kappus, Johnny, Brian and Kevin Monahan, Zachary and Kendra Beattie, Teigue Chadwick; step- grandchildren Alex, Emily, and Joey Bonner; great-grandchildren, Madison and Logan Nickens, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will include: A rosary at 7pm Friday, August 17th and a Funeral Mass Saturday, August 18th at 10am, both at St. Paul's Catholic Church in San Antonio, TX, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
