Janie Louise Whitehurst Matthews, 76 of Hassell Road, died Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Vidant Edgecombe Hospital.
Mrs. Matthews was born on November 2, 1943 in Pitt County to the late William and Christine Casper Whitehurst. She was a retired certified nursing assistant, having worked for Roanoke River Rehabilitation Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Autry Matthews, son, William “Billy” Matthews; daughter, Crystal Matthew Blake and brother, Bobby Ray Whitehurst.
Survivors include her daughter, Wanda Stewart (Haywood) of Tarboro; brothers, William Whitehurst of Hobgood and Robert Earl Whitehurst of Wilmington; sister, Francis Futrell of Rich Square; grandchildren 8; great grandchildren 14.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Walker Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Sonny Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Walker Funeral Home in Williamston.
