BROWN, Theodore N., Sr., 81, Brooksville went home to be with his Heavenly Father on March 28, 2020. He was born in Greenfield, Florida and has lived in Brooksville most of his lifetime. He was an educator with the Hernando County School System for over 20 years, having worked at Moton High School, Hernando High, Delores S. Parrott Jr.High School before retiring in 1984. Bishop Brown’s passion was being a minister, counsellor, religious leader and currently held the title of President General Emeritus House of God, Church of the Living God International.
He is predeceased by his parents, Willie Brown Sr. and Mable Brown; siblings: Willie Brown Jr., Sallie Washington, Leroy Brown, Joe Brown, Ulysses Brown, Mary Blanks and Anne Mae Sanders. He leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his home going, his loving wife of 53 years, Gladys, of Brooksville, FL; 4 children: Theodore N. Brown II (Crystal) of Raleigh, NC; Anthony E. Brown (Teresa) of Raleigh, NC; Nathaniel A. Brown (Janea) of Spring Hill, FL; Angelena Joseph (Dominique) of Atlanta, GA; 7 Grandchildren: Theodore N. Brown III, Ejessica Brown, Marabbi Brown, Arielle Brown, Moriah Brown, Jordan Brown and Joshua Brown; 2 Great Grandchildren: Zelaya Brown and Chase Brown; 3 siblings: Juanita Washington of Brooksville, FL; Leon Brown (Mary) of Anchorage, Alaska and Robert Brown (Emily) of Brooksville, FL; his Aunt, Catherine Murphy of Dade City, FL; 2 God-Children: Bridget L. Taylor (deceased) and Scott- Wesley Pryor; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Bishop Theodore Nelson Brown (affectionately referred to as Uncle Ted, Bishop, Elder T) was born February 23, 1939 in Pasco County Florida to Elder Willie Brown Sr. and the late Missionary Mable Brown. He was educated in the Public schools of Hernando County, Florida; received his Bachelor of Arts in Education from St. Augustine’s College, Raleigh, NC with further study at the University of South Florida and St. Leo College respectively.
Bishop Brown is a retired educator of the Hernando County School System. He began his teaching career in 1965 at Moton High School where he mentored and taught some of Hernando County’s best and brightest students. Bishop Brown later transferred to Hernando High School where he taught from 1970 -1975. After more than 20 years of classroom and athletic instruction, Bishop Brown exchanged his math books and his insatiable love for coaching football and baseball for full-time ministry. Bishop Brown culminated his teaching career in 1985 at Delores S. Parrott Jr. High School (1975-1985).
In December of 1972, Bishop Brown accepted Christ as his personal Savior. In May 1974, he acknowledged God's call on his life to the ministry, and was ordained as a minister of the Gospel that same year. Bishop Brown has served as pastor of Hernando Church of the Living God located in Hernando, Florida and Josephine St. Church of the Living God in Brooksville, FL serving 30 years in the pastorate. During his pastoral commission at Hernando CLG a new edifice was erected to the glory of God!
Bishop Brown has served faithfully on the local, state and national levels in various CLG denominational offices. He was ordained District Elder in April of 1983 and General Church Elder in October of 1986. He has also served the church at the State Youth Congress, National Youth Congress, as State Financial Secretary, Treasurer and National Foreign Mission Treasurer. He also served as Chairman of the General Council Of Elders and National Treasurer of the Churches of the Living God, International.
In the year of 1996, Bishop Brown was consecrated to the office of Bishop during the convergence of the Sixty-Seventh Annual General Assembly, by the CLG Board of Bishops and Bishop Jesse J. White Sr., Presiding Bishop and President General. During his tenure on the General Board of Bishops, Bishop Brown faithfully served in the capacity of Overseer of Churches of the Living God in the Florida Gulf, Florida Gold Coast, and Georgia Diocese. Having served on the General Board of Bishops, in 2010 Bishop Brown was elected and served as President General of the Churches of the Living God for 8 years.
He has served the international community when he answered the call of the “Great Commision” to “Go ye therefore into all the world…” Bishop Brown has served on the Mission field in Jamaica, West Indies, Ghana, West Africa, and Trinidad West Indies.
Bishop Brown was involved in his local community as well. He has served as President of the Minister-Layman Alliance of Hernando County, member of the Businessmen's Fellowship International, he was a Life Member of NAACP of Hernando County, and a Task Force Member of the Promise Keepers, Men of Integrity. His other community contributions included being the Co-Founder of the Minister-Layman Alliance of Hernando County, Co-Founder of Concerned Citizens Alliance of Brooksville, Florida, Ministerial Support to “Community Gospel Hour” radio program, Kennedy Park Little League program supporter, community mentor and school volunteer.
Bishop Brown’s Life can be summed up in a few words. He was a man that loved God with all of his heart. He loved God’s people with his entire being. But most importantly, he performed the work tirelessly, until the very end. If Bishop Brown could have a final word, 2 Timothy 4:7-8 would be his doxology. The holy writ states, “I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. Amen”
