Peter Benjamin Seaton, the son of Mary Bethel and William Seaton, was born in Hillsboro, Franklin County, Tennessee on 02 Jun 1849. He moved with his family to the Henry County, Tennessee area and remained there until his death in 1901, the result of a heat stroke. He married Margaret Isabella Griffin on 14 May 1876 in Paris, Henry County, Tennessee. Peter's brother, Billie, married Isabella's sister, Tennessee Griffin. After the death of his wife Isabella in January 1891, he married Cora Gore. Peter and Isabella where the parents of seven children; Nora, Mary, Ellen, Dora, Ada, Ruby, and Peter Jr.. Peter had one son with Cora; Weldon B. Seaton.

The brothers owned property together and donated a portion of the farm land to the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in order that a permanent church building could be used, many of the services were being held in the homes of Peter and his brother Billie. Peter was baptized a member of the church (now called Community of Christ) in 1881. Along with the building of the church a cemetery was laid out and sets next to the church building. The property also is used for many camps and reunions. Peter's home was located across the street from where the chapel sits.

Peter was an ordained Elder in the church and took his calling very seriously. He was not only the first pastor of the congregation but also one of the missionaries.
