Lucy M. Ray, 85, of Burnsville, passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2020, at the Brian Center of Spruce Pine.

A native of Avery County, she was the daughter of the late Lyn and Nellie Watson Goforth.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter: Sandra Lyn Atkins; sisters: Veta Griffith, Una Richardson, Audrey Phillips, and Frances McKinney; and brothers: Eldon, Jennings, Preston, Sam, Tom, and Linton Goforth.

Surviving are her husband of 64 years: Alfred Ray; daughter: Cindy Ray Peters and husband, David, of Linville Falls; granddaughters: Jessica Winters Schober and husband, Alek, of Linville, Samantha Peters Baldus and husband, Rob, of Knoxville, TN, and Katie Peters Dulin and husband, Rob, of Charlotte; great granddaughters: Jillian Downing of Linville, Juniper Baldus, and Charlotte Dulin of Charlotte; and a brother: “Buddy” Goforth of Avery County.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30PM Saturday in the Fred Young Cemetery Rev. Vern Grindstaff will officiate
