Malden Observer (MA) - Monday, February 23, 2009

Ralph Wilson Kenty, 90, of Malden, died February 21, 2009, at the Rosewood Nursing Center in Peabody.

Born on December 5, 1918, in Boston, he was the son of George and Lillian P. (Balch) Kenty.

He was a graduate of Medford High School.

After his graduation, he worked different jobs, one as a caddy traveling to Florida and later returning to the Medford area. He once told his family that he caddied for the late great baseball legend, Babe Ruth, and for his hard work he was paid 25 cents.

Mr. Kenty joined the U.S. Army in November 1940. In the winter of 1941 when he was home from leave before shipping out to Europe, he would marry his sweetheart, Arline M. Norton, in the Immaculate Conception Rectory on December 31, 1941. Mr. Kenty would leave for the war and not return for many years until his discharge in August 1945.

He and Arline then started a family and moved to Malden. The couple had been together for 65 years until Mrs. Kenty's death in May 2007.

Mr. Kenty returned from the war and would later start a real estate and insurance business on Summer Street in Malden. His business would later merge with another firm and be called The Chesley and Kenty Insurance Agency Inc. The firm moved to the former Chesley Building on Dartmouth Street in Malden.

Mr. Kenty was a member of the Malden Housing Authority Board, was a director of the YMCA, and an active member of the Malden Lions Club. He also served as the past district governor of the Lions Club and in other numerous capacities, including the office of King Lion. He was very active in the city of Malden. He served as the chairman of the board of the Pine Banks Park.

Along with his wife, Arline, he helped raise their two granddaughters. He had a passion for owning and driving his Cadillacs. He was an avid Boston and Malden sports fan holding the record for the most consecutive attendances at the Medford/Malden football rivalry every Thanksgiving Day. He loved and enjoyed the company of his dogs, Casey, Bubbles and Dusty.

Mr. Kenty was the grandfather of J. Paul Haney III, husband of Lauren, of Exeter, N.H., Sean F. Haney, husband of Racelle, of Andover, Jessica L. Kenty-Drane, wife of Paul, of Woodbridge, Conn., and Kate E. Kenty of Boston; great-grandfather of J. Paul IV, Jared M., Gabrielle A. Haney, Samantha A. Drane, Patrick T., Jacqueline E., and Matthew R. Haney.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Arline M. (Norton) Kenty; and his children, Alexandra M. Haney-Kelly, formerly of Reading and the late Ralph F. Kenty formerly of Malden.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 24, 4-8 p.m. in Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden. His funeral will be held Wednesday, February 25, at 9:45 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden. Interment will be in Forestdale Cemetery, Malden.
