Leslie G. Walter, 87, of Streator died at 9:45 P.M. Friday September 10, 2010 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Streator.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. Rev. Bill Niebuhr will officiate.
Visitation will be 10-11 A.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Streator, Illinois. Pallbearers will be William Allison Sr., Ryan Klein, Jeff, Ginger, Richard and Francis Walter. Members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492 will provide full military honors at the graveside.
Born April 15, 1923 in Missouri he was the son of Ira and Stella (Hodges) Walter. He married Genevieve Bennett on August 6, 1942 in Morris, Illinois. She survives in Streator.
He is also survived by two daughters, Carol (William) Allison Sr. and Vickie (Ralph) Klein both of Streator; 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Joe Walter; brothers, Virgil, Raymond, Joseph, Delbert, William, Aaron and Alvin Walter; sisters, Alice Snell and Ivy Eleby and one grandson Michael Klein.
Leslie served in the United States Navy during WW II from 1943 until 1945.
He worked through the years for Caterpiller Inc., Owens Illinois Glass Company and as an over the road truck driver for many years. He was a member of the Teamsters Union.
Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
