Son of William H. and Julia (Hine) Waers. He married Rose May Russell of February 5, 1903 at Polo, Missouri. They had several children.

Special Officer William Waers, Rock Island Railroad Police, was shot and killed when he interrupted a burglary of coal cars in the rail yards in Herington, Kansas.

Officer Waers had been assigned to the rail yards to investigate the murders of nine people over the previous five years. During the investigation he interrupted the burglary and was shot. Two suspects were eventually apprehended.

Offier Waers is listed on the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, D.C. and the Officer Mown Memorial Page (ODMP) on the Web.
