Steve was born on April 2, 1959, in Muleshoe, Texas, to parents Alvin Andrew Richards and Melba Jean Richards. He graduated from Sudan High School in 1977, where he was All-District in football. He was married to the love of his life, Billie Jean Richards, on June 14, 1980 at the First United Methodist Church in Sudan.
Steve worked at First Baptist Church in Mineral Wells for 29 years. He was a master builder and earned the nickname "Mr. Fix-it". He loved working in his yard and shop. He loved motorcycles, classic cars, guns and working with his hands. Steve was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and his coffee drinking buddies. He was a valued member of the community and loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Billie Jean Richards; son, Christopher Adam Richards and wife, Irais Richards of College Station; daughter, Catrina Nicole Richards of Mineral Wells; three grandchildren that were his pride and joy, Ayden, Xander and Lidia Richards; his brother, Alvin Richards Jr. of Sudan; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; one special cousin who was like a brother, Rick Stanford; and life-long friends the Blackburns and Salges.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Richards Sr. and Melba Jean Richards of Sudan, Texas; and one brother, Bobby Don Richards of Sudan.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, June 6, 2020 at First Baptist Church of Mineral Wells. Arrangements will be handled by Baum-Carlock Bumgardner in Mineral Wells.
