Nellie was known as the "Belle of St. Louis". A play, called "Nellie of N'Orleans" was written about her life and starred Minnie Maddern Fiske.

Obituary appeared in St. Paul Globe, St. Paul, MN on Feb 22, 1884 page 1:

"St. Louis, Feb. 21 - Mrs. Fred W. Paramore, wife of the son of Col. J.W. Paramore, President of the Texas & St. Louis Railway, died at an early hour this morning. Mrs. Paramore, prior to her marriage was Miss Nellie Hazeltine, daughter of W.B. Hazeltine, formerly a prominent merchant of St. Louis, and was the leading belle of the city for several years. She was a very beautiful and highly polished lady, well known in eastern and southern society, and became famous a few years ago as the reported fiancee of Samuel J Tilden."
