Katherine Estelle (Breland) Shaw passed away on April 9, 2020, at her home in Cuba, Alabama.
She was born in Mississippi, the youngest of six children, and spent her first years in House, Mississippi, and in Meridian. Cuba had been her home for the last 60 years, since marrying James (Jimbo) Shaw, and building a life and family there. Kathy and Jimbo had many adventures in their lives together, rearing children, raising cows, and riding motorcycles. They spent many years' worth of afternoons riding to the woods to check on timber, going to the pasture to check on calves, and sitting on the front porch watching trains go by. Kathy loved Jimbo and she loved her children and she loved Cuba, and all the friends and neighbors that filled her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, James Lester Shaw; her parents Omer John and Buena Breland, her sisters, Katie Mae Grice, Dorothy Purvis, and Helen Roberts; her brothers Doris Breland and Luke Breland; and, Lester and Mildred Shaw.
She is survived by her children, Tammy Shaw and Leann Staton, Jeff and Leslie Shaw, and Polly and Billy Carroll; her grandchildren, Adam Shaw, Hayden Shaw, Gage Stephens, Justin Stephens, Carter Stephens, Celia Stephens, William Carroll, Jessica Reynolds, Katie Leach, and Zack Roberts; her "adopted" granddaughter, Jenny Arvelos; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and, her loving caregivers Bessie Hunter, Dee Dancy, and Felicia Brown.
