Betty Rae Marshall
April 24, 1949 - April 6, 2020
Betty Slamans Marshall was born April 24th 1949, to Thomas Nelson and Gladys Bell (Dildine) Slamans in the old Hominy hospital. She was born, went to the Nazarene church, attended high school, taught at the high school, and lived a good part of her life all on Wood street.

After graduating high school in 1967, she attended college at Oklahoma State University (another longtime dream). While she was at OSU she was a member of Academic honor societies. She received her bachelor’s degree in Arts and Sciences with a major in English, and a minor in French in 1971. She had to take 3 or 4 classes her last semester there to finish her bachelor’s but she decided to add some classes that would allow her to begin her Masters degree in English in 1976. She accepted a job in Hominy in 1971 and was teaching senior English, AP English, French I and II, Speech, and Drama. She sponsored the yearbook, French club, and National Honor Society all while working on her Masters. For several years she acted as the negotiator for the teachers in the school boards policy decisions. She founded the French club in 1972 and she directed Junior, and Senior plays. She took French club members to French speaking Canada and later to New Orleans, and in 1979 she took the students on the first of 13 trips to Europe.

Her most important accomplishments were her three sons: Bryon Robert, Jason Edward, and Justin Thomas. She often said that her sons and grandchildren were the lights in her life.

Betty passed away on April 6, 2020 at the age of 70 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Nelson and Gladys Slamans.
