BILLY BOB HUBBARD, SR.
( February 6, 1941 ~ April 10, 2020)

Billy Bob Hubbard, age 79 years young, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 10, 2020 in Paris, Texas. He was born on February 6, 1941 in Hope, AR to Bert and Ruby.

He was a proud Graduate of Valliant High School class of 1960. Bill lived most of his life in Valliant apart from those college years in Wilburton, little did he know that he would meet the love of his life Phyllis Shann. They were married on August 23, 1965.

Bill was a man of many words and when he entered a room the atmosphere changed always for the better. He was full of laughter, fun and jokes. He taught school and had so many students, he stopped counting. Bill was “Born to Serve”, he was elected and served as the McCurtain County Commissioner for 6 years, volunteered on the Valliant Fire Department for 27 years and was the Chief for 22 of those years. He was elected to the Valliant School Board and served on the Valliant City Council up until his death. Bill was “Citizen of the Year in 2018” and he was a man who loved Valliant with all his heart.

He was a collector of many things, he collected what his family called junk, but he called treasures and his shop was filled with anything that anyone could imagine. Many friends and neighbors came to see Bill when they needed something that the hardware store just didn’t have but Bill Hubbard had one, he just had to find it.

Just as he served his community, Bill served in the First Baptist Church as a Deacon and he served the Lord every day by sharing his loved and kindness. He believed that we should never give up when going through a valley and that we should always help make a difference in lives of others. He was caring and loving, that is how he would want to be remembered.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents Bert Hubbard and Ruby Slocum, his stepfather Jim Slocum, sisters Jean Hubbard and Sue Crossland, brother James Hubbard.

He leaves to forever cherish his memory, his wife of 54 years, Phyllis Hubbard, son Billy Bob Hubbard and Danny Hubbard of Valliant and one daughter Becky Sargent and husband Travis of Valliant, his favorite nephew Danny Crossland and wife Cheral of Tulsa. Granddaughers Baylee Ralls and husband Eric of Canton, OH, Jacey Hubbard, Samantha Sargent, Danielle Hubbard all of Valliant, OK, and grandson Zac Hubbard of Idabel. Great-Grandchildren Holden Miller of Valliant, OK and Raylan Ralls of Canton, OH.

Services are pending and a celebration of life service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society at https://donate3.cancer.org in memory of Bill Hubbard who fought a hard and very long battle.

(Update) The date of June 26, 2020 has been chosen to celebrate the life of Billy Bob Hubbard at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in Valliant, Oklahoma.

*I Remember Billy Bob
I first met Billy Bob when we were in the 9th Grade at Valliant High School. Even at that young age, Billy Bob once told me a truth that was embarrassing to hear, but one that a naive young girl needed to hear. I believe that Billy Bob was someone you could trust to tell you the truth. And he was someone who would help you out when you needed help. I remember how he was always around the town. He knew what was going on.
Years later when I moved back to Valliant, there were many times my mother and I needed help when solving the problems trying to maintain a couple of houses. My mother would not say, "Call ghostbusters!" or "Better call Saul!" It was usually, " Call Billy Bob!" And, yes, Billy Bob, who was probably getting many calls from the so-called Golden Girls would come and help.
Billy Bob came and spoke at my mother's 90th birthday celebration. I was so proud to introduce someone I had known nearly 50 years and his beautiful wife Phyllis that day.
Billy Bob was a member of the Class of 1960. I think he truly loved his classmates. And he made you feel so welcome when returning for class reunions. He did what he could to get us all back together. Greta Pritchett Slaton
