Dennis Foster Cole

Dennis passed away peacefully at home April 7, 2017, surrounded by love at age 72. Born in Weed, CA to June and Francis Cole and raised in Oregon, he moved to Seattle in 1984. A graduate of Coburg HS, University of Oregon (B.A.) and University of Guam (M.A.), he served in the U.S. Air Force in Guam, 1968-1971.

For 36 years, he was general contractor and master craftsman in residential remodeling, and for the past 12 years fulfilled his dream as teacher of movement as medicine in Qigong and Tai Chi. Dennis received a heart transplant in 1988 (42nd at Seattle UWMC) and in 2008, humbly received a second heart transplant. Authentic to the core, Dennis lived every precious moment completely with grace, exuberance and playfulness. His full life meant deep compassion for all beings, a passion for learning and teaching, and service to the greater good. He was a founding member of Cascade Chapter, Transplant Recipients Int'l Organization (TRIO) and Team Spare Parts, longtime
volunteer at NW Kidney Centers and neighborhood communities. In 1997, he met the love of his life, Carol Lynn, while both were hospice volunteers.

Dennis competed at U.S. Transplant Games (4X), biked STP with Team Spare Parts (8X), walked half-marathons with UWMC Team Transplant (7X) and organized the annual TRIO softball game for 25 years.

Dennis is survived and greatly missed by his wife Carol Lynn; his children Brooke and Tyler (Elise, and grandchild Lily Ann), siblings: twin Diana (Ron), Sharon, Chris and Brian (Vicki) and wide circle of loving family and friends. Preceded in death by parents and sister Nan.

Family is forever grateful to all organ transplant donors and their families; and to staff at UWMC, Seattle VA, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Providence Hospice of Seattle and Care at Home of WA for their dedicated care.

Celebration of Life: Monday, August 14 at 2:30pm, Seattle First Baptist Church, 1111 Harvard Ave., Seattle 98122. Reception to follow.

Donations may be given to Cancer Lifeline, UW Medicine, Bet Alef Meditative Synagogue, or favorite charity. Registration to become an organ donor is lovingly encouraged.
