Reta Mary Rasmussen Briggs, 89, of Midvale, Utah, passed away Saturday February 17, 2001, at Sunshine Terrace in Logan, Utah.

Reta was born March 16, 1911, in Burlington, Big Horn County, WY to Andrew and Anna Elizabeth Spens Rasmussen. She attended elementary school in Burlington and high school in Cowley, WY. Her education was continued at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, where she was granted a Life Certificate for Teaching. Reta taught school in Moorcroft, Burlington and Cowley, WY.

On June 9, 1941, Reta married Ivan Richards Briggs in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and became mother to his seven children. Reta and Ivan had four more children bringing the family total to 11. While raising her family, Reta returned to her teaching in the Burlington Public Schools and continued her education and received her BS Degree from the University of Wyoming in 1960. Reta and Ivan moved to Farmington, UT in 1967. She taught at Farmington Elementary for nine years and retired in 1976, having taught school for 40 years. Because of her teaching skills, each of her students were excellent readers and had beautiful penmanship.

Reta was a daughter of Utah Pioneers and appreciated her heritage and the sacrifices of her ancestors. Reta's life was an example of service to others. She lived the adage, "If you can't say something good about someone, don't say anything at all." Reta was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities, both in teaching and leadership. She was a great storyteller and could keep her children and grandchildren entertained for hours. She loved the hymns of the LDS Church and enjoyed playing them. One of the last memories is of Reta playing "Prayer Is the Soul's Sincere Desire" at Sunshine Terrace one week ago.

Reta is survived by her children, Fenton (Elsie) Briggs, Pocatello, ID; Garth (Grace) Briggs, Spokane, WA; David (Naomi), Byron, WY; Marilyn (Leslie) Wardell, Billings, MT; Lou Ciel (Scott) Taggart, Montreal, Quebec, Canada; Keith (Jo) Briggs, Denton, TX; daughter-in-law, Jan Briggs (James, deceased), Midvale, UT; Virginia (Hank) Semadeni, Farmington, UT; Ivan (Suzanna) Briggs, Sandy, UT; Richard (Liz) Briggs, Las Vegas, NV; and Mary Ann (Paul) Sanders, Logan, UT.
