Phillip Wayne Thompson of Gastonia, NC died on August 5, 2015, surrounded by his wife and five children. Phil was born on July 1, 1949 in Tulsa, OK. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernie Thompson, and father-in-law, John W. Grice.

Phil worked for TG&Y stores based out of Plano, TX in store operations for 17 years. He was recruited by Family Dollar Stores where he worked for 18 years. There he became the Senior VP of Operations and retired at 51 years old.

Phil and his wife went on to build and operate multiple roller skating centers, including the two Kate's Skating Rinks in Gastonia. They also developed a real estate development and leasing company. Thompson Realty Investments, LLC, is operated by them and their five children.
