MRS. SWARTHOUT DIES
Aged Woman Who Came To La Crosse in 1855 Dead At The Home Of Her Son
Mrs. Susan Swarthout died this morning at the home of her son, Dr. E.C Swarthout, 904 Rose St, at the age of 81 years. Old age was the cause of death.
She was born Nov. 20, 1831, in New York, and remained there until she was 10-16 (not sure which it says, paper blurred), when she moved with her parents to Beaver Dam, Wis. In 1852 she married Alfred S Swarthout. In 1855 they moved to La Crosse county, where they remained until 1879, when they moved to Sparta. In 1902, she broke up housekeeping and came to live with her son, Dr. E. C. Swarthout, where she remained until she died.
She leaves one son, Dr. E. C. Swarthout, one brother, Chester Beswick of Blair, Wisc and five granchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at the home of Dr. E. C. Swarthout. Interment will be at Sparta
