John “Jack” Kay Jennette, Higgins Lake, died at his home March 19, 2012, at the age of 100.
A service was held March 24 at Messiah Lutheran Church, Roscommon, with Pastor Andrew Gookin officiating. Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon, handled arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church.
He was born Jan. 22, 1912, the son of Alexander C. and Mary (Kay) Jennette. He had lived at Higgins Lake since 1991 and was formerly from Monroe. He and Harriet J. Ankenbrandt were united in marriage May 23, 1934, in Detroit.
Mr. Jennette was the paymaster at Consolidated Paper Company in Monroe and Flint for more than 45 years and retired in 1979. He was a groundskeeper at River Raisin Golf Course in Monroe from 1979 to 1990 and at White Deer Golf Course at Houghton Lake from 1991 to 1995.
He attended Messiah Lutheran Church.
A graduate of the University of Michigan, he earned many athletic awards while there. He enjoyed golfing and fishing and was a member of the Grayling Moose Lodge.
Preceding him in death were his brother, Donald Jennette; sister, Dorothy Mercer; and great-grandson, Joshua Langerman.
Besides his wife, Harriet, he is survived by his daughter, Jan (Roger) Langerman of Higgins Lake; grandchildren, John (Debbie) Langerman of Detroit Beach and Jennifer (Jason) Sexton of Newport; great-grandchildren, Cris (significant other, Kelly Beck) Langerman of Monroe, Michael Langerman of Monroe, Caitlyn and Kendal Sexton of Newport; nephews, Tom (Mary Lou) Jennette of Roscommon, Don (Leila) Jennette of Elk Rapids and Jack Jennette of Traverse City.
