Ebenezer Browning was a miller by trade. He came from a long line of millers. Ebenezer was drafted into Company E, 22nd Regiment, Indiana Infantry, November 17, 1864 and died from inflammation of the lungs in General Hospital No. 14, Nashville, Tennessee, February 10, 1865.

His parents came to the United States in 1817 and Vanderburgh County by flatboat from Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1820 the father started operating his mill at Inglefield. The father, Richard, received a prize from the 1840 New Orleans Exposition for producing the best flour in the United States.

Father: Richard Browning, born in St. George Parrish, County Middlesex, England, February 8, 1791. Died June 26, 1874.
Mother: Lucy (Weil) Browning, born at Bedford, Bedfordshire County, England, October 16, 1796. Died August 26, 1872.

Ebenezer never married.
