Martha was born December 16, 1929, in Clarksdale, Ms., to the late Will and Thelma Stewart. She was a member of the Chattanooga and North Georgia communities since 1965. Martha was a member of Chattanooga Valley Church of Christ since 1965 where she started a food program to deliver hot meals to people in need in the community. This program is still thriving today. Her entire life was spent helping others. Any time day or night Martha was eager to assist anyone with a need. Mrs. Johnston worked as a nurse in ICU at Erlanger for many years as well as other area hospitals. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Charles William Johnston.
Survivors are her two daughters, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
