Frank "H" Bateman, 91, died Wednesday Oct 3, 2001 after spending the day getting cedar wood with his son Harold, who was at his side at the time of his passing.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday Oct 9, 2001, at the Bedford LDS Ward Chapel. Burial was in the Bedford Cemetery beside his beloved wife Anna.
Frank was born Jan 15,1910 in Etna, the second son of Alfred James and Lillie Barbara Haderlie Bateman.
He grew up on the family farm in Etna and attended school through the eighth grade in Etna.
He married Anna Barbara Newenschwander on Feb 26, 1930 i the Salt Lake Temple. Three children were born to their family.
Frank and Anna purchased a farm in Bedford two years after their marriage and lived and farmed in Bedford all the rest of their lives. In later years they spent 17 winters in Arizona where they enjoyed very much attending the Mesa Temple. Over his lifetime he saw the advancement from horse drawn equipment to the machinery of today.
Frank enjoyed music and learned to play the harmonica, guitar, trumpet and saxophone. Before he was married he was in a three member band from Etna that played for dances from Alpine to Afton.
Frank believed in being honest and fair. He stood for right and truth. He was industrious, innovative and a hard worker and with Anna took good care of his animals and farm. He enjoyed working with his hands and built all the buildings on the farm as well as two homes and most of a third.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing and working with wood and loved to share garden produce and handcrafted wood items with everyone.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in a bishopric, High Priests group leadership, and Sunday School presidency. He especially enjoyed secretary and book work and also served as a ward clerk.
His community service included committeeman on the Lincoln County ASCS Committee for 12 years, director in the Thayne Cheese Company and director/president of Bedford Community canal and pipeline irrigation companies.
He is survived by his son Harold Bateman, Bedford; daughters Mary Lou Wilding, Sugar City and Lana Hepworth, Idaho Falls; 13 grandchildren 49 great-grandchildren and his sister Helen Dartt, Salmon ID
He was preceded in death by his wife Anna, four great grandchildren, his parents, and two brothers Calvin and Charlie.
