Bertha May McKinley Kays was born May 17, 1901 to James Solmon and Nancy Jane Madole McKinley, at Barnett, Missouri. Bertha passed away February 7, 1990 at Bothwell Regional Health Center, in Sedalia, Missouri.
Bertha grew up in Indian Creek Hollow and went to school at the McKinley school there.
Bertha had one son Roscoe Burkhart by a previous marriage. Roscoe and Juanita had one son Bobby which was Bertha's pride. Bobby and Kelly had 5 children. One sister, Carrie Burkhart, of Eldon. Several neices and nephews.
Bertha married Hugh Kays on October 30, 1945 and lived several years just 3 miles from town. Moving to town when their health started to deteriate. Hugh preceded her in death on August 29, 1977.
Hugh had 6 children so, Bertha inherited several grandchildren.
Bertha was survived by her son Roscoe, one grandson Bobby, 5 grandchildren and her Kays step-family.
She had been preceded in death by her husband Hugh, and infant, her parents and three brothers Marshall Mckinley, Claude Mckinley, and Willard Mckinley.
Mrs. Kays was a member of the Big Rock Primitive Baptist Church near Versailles.
