George M. Welch of Hornell, NY and formerly of Springville, NY died Sunday, April 5, 2020 at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell at the age of 90.

He was born February 8, 1930 in Picton, Ontario, Canada a son of the late Cye and Marion (Cavanaugh) Welch. He was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Church in Hornell and was a Pharmacist.

George started at Walter's Pharmacy in Springville, NY working for Ann Foltz in 1952 and bought into the business in 1953. He owned the pharmacy for 25 years until he sold out to his partner, Charles Krezmien prior to moving to Arizona where he worked for 13 years. Afterwards, he moved back to Brockport, NY until his retirement relocated him to Arkport. He had also worked part-time at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell.

George was a founding member of the Knights of St. John, a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th degree, and past president of the Springville Rotary Club.

He is survived by his step-daughter - Joan (Spencer) Crow of South Carolina; four step-grandchildren, seven step great-grandchildren, five step great-great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife - Zaida (Baker) Welch and his step-son - James Wingert.

There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date. Interment will be held in Fairview Cemetery, Springville.
