William F. Abell, 69, Gettysburg R. D. 3, died at his home at 11 o'clock last night. He had been in failing health for some time and was confined to bed for a month. The deceased was a native and lifelong resident of Adams county. He was a son of the late Frank and Henrietta (Bowers) Abell.
For fifteen years, Mr. Abell served as a battlefield guide and prior to that was employed as a laborer on the battlefield. The deceased was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic church, Gettysburg. He was affiliated with Gettysburg Aerie, No. 1562, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the Battlefield Guides association.
Surviving are his widow, the former Lucy C. Martin, to whom he was married 49 years; six children, William J. and James F. Abell, and Mrs. Stephen Wagaman, at home, and Mrs. George Reaver, Charles V. Abell and Mrs. Jack Chamber-lain, Gettysburg; fourteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a brother, George Abell, New Oxford, and a sister, Mrs. Rose Keyser, New Oxford.
The funeral will be held on Monday meeting at 8:30 a. m. at the Bender funeral home, Gettysburg. A high mass of requiem will be celebrated at 9 oclock in St. Francis Xavier church, Gettysburg The Rev. Mark E. Stock, rector, will be celebrant. Interment will be made in the Gettysburg Catholic cemetery. Friends may call at toe funeral home on Sunday after 7 p.m.
